Dear Supporter of STEM Education:

In response to the lack of opportunities for elementary aged students to participate in out-of-class science experiences, the Gifted Education Department from Shelby County Schools partnered with AMSTI Science Specialists and the University of Montevallo to break new ground by establishing an annual day of science and engineering  for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students across central Alabama.

On behalf of the Engaging Elementary Engineers (E³) Planning Team, we would like to provide you with the opportunity to donate funds or resources for the 6th Annual E³ day. This year’s event will be held February 20th and 21st at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center with approximately 500 students expected to attend and showcase their ingenuity and understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts to solve complex design problems.

Your contribution will help allow more students to experience this unprecedented STEM opportunity. A variety of materials are needed for the students to design and construct solutions to various engineering problems. In addition, monetary donations are needed in order to allow students to have the full experience at no-cost to them.

Students who participate show a passion for science, and E³ is one of the few opportunities they have at this age to engage in authentic STEM activities.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Kimberly Brown at (205) 682-5976 or via email at kbrown@shelbyed.org. Please know with your support we will accomplish great things!

What teachers are saying...
"On the spot competitions are exciting and really challenge students to problem solve and think creatively."

"My students actually worked together and for the first time recognized  not only the importance of teamwork, but also the characteristics needed to be a team player."

"On the way to U of M yesterday, Amanda overheard two young gentlemen discussing where they would go to college. One young man was probably not one to have had that discussion before yesterday."

"The campus was beautiful and my students were able to experience engaging STEM activities and get a small taste of campus life."
